Whitest Taino Alive
Working on the visual identity for Whitest Taíno Alive has been a highlight of my design career. This hip-hop group from Santo Domingo uniquely blends Spanglish lyrics with themes from 80's Dominican pop culture, current events, and local slang. The group's name pays homage to the indigenous Taíno people of Hispaniola, cleverly adapting the name from the band The Whitest Boy Alive to reflect their cultural roots.
From the project's inception, I have had the privilege of crafting its visual identity, designing everything from the logo to album covers, minisites, flyers, and concert tickets. The main logo features a monogram of the initials "WTA," encapsulating the essence of the group in a simple yet powerful design.
Additionally, I developed a lifestyle brand, Choperia Fina, which translates to "Ratchet/Fine" in English. This brand extends the group's identity into apparel and merchandise, incorporating a monogram that nods to Dominican baseball team logos, celebrating another integral aspect of Dominican culture. This comprehensive approach to branding not only captures the group's unique artistic vision but also connects deeply with their audience.
